Victim In Weekend Gang Shooting Has Died

Officials say the victim from Sunday's shooting in east Wichita has died.

The 23-year-old man died Tuesday. His name has not been released.

A rival gang dispute led to a shooting in southeast Wichita over the Memorial Day weekend.

Authorities were called to the scene in the 5100 block of East Bayley Street early Sunday morning. A 23-year-old man was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Lt. Todd Ojile, Wichita Police, said the victim remains on life-support.

A second victim was also admitted into the hospital to be treated for gunshot wounds. The victim has since been released.

Officers have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection to the shooting. Investigators said they are looking for other suspects.

Police said the 23-year-old shooting victim is not a gang member, but was at home to attend a party.

While responding to calls of shots fired in southeast Wichita, police found a man in the street with critical injuries.

It happened around 3:45 a.m. in the 1000 block of south Pinecrest, by Southeast High School.

Capt. Hassan Ramzah says there were multiple reports of shots fired in the area, but he did not confirm that the man in his 20s had been shot.

“We do not know the extent of the injuries to the victim at this time other than the victim did receive some trauma,” says Ramzah.

Witnesses reportedly say 4 unknown males running from the area.

Officers are investigating the incident and looking for additional witnesses.

No names have been released, and the victim’s current condition is unknown.
