Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer is talking about his trip to Africa. He took the 10-day trip in early November with ten other local leaders to drum-up more business for Wichita.

Brewer says the trip cost $13,000. He says the trip, that was paid for with taxpayer dollars, was beneficial.

"We're looking at being able to get new businesses... We know that Africa and that particular region, is one of the largest growing regions in the world," said Brewer.

The region already works with Wichita's Koch Industries, Coleman and a local meat company.

"There are a lot of opportunities that are there. We can actually sell equipment. We can sell beef. Our beef is the best. When you talk about aviation, with their future plans, we fit right inside," said Brewer.

The plans are to build at least three airports and service centers. Africa delegates say they also plan to buy new airplanes, jets and more - something they now know the Air Capital of the World specializes in building.

"Any time you're going to sell jobs, you're going to sell your product, you're going to be able to provide an environment where we can grow our businesses here, and we can sell airplanes and agriculture and technology, I'd say that's successful," said Brewer.

Brewer did not admit to any specific deals, but did say he has passed off information to the Secretary of Commerce and the World Trade Center. He says Wichita could start seeing some of the "deals" fall into place as early as this Spring.
