WICHITA, Kan.-- The Wichita City Council voted today to appoint a naming advisory committee to gather input on the name of Wichita's airport.
More than 1,500 people recently signed a petition to change the name of Mid-Continent Airport to honor former President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Preliminary estimates show the potential costs for the name change can total to $728,350. The required costs are $313,100, deferred costs are $12,500, and optional costs are $403,000.
The naming committee will gather information, and suggest names for the airport. The final decision will be up to the City Council.
