WICHITA, Kan.-- The Wichita School Board has approved design services for new cafeterias.
The board approved the issue unanimously, 6-0 in a vote Monday evening. The district will spend an additional $500,000, which will be used to implement changes at West High, South High, Mayberry Middle, and Robinson Middle Schools.
"If it doesn't feel good to go in a cafeteria, because it's just not a comfortable, appealing place, then we're not serving our students well. We do lots of other things to make spaces attractive in our buildings, and we need to do that in our cafeterias also," said Vicki Hoffman, USD 259 Nutrition Services Director.
The Board is considering an additional $500,000 which will be used to implement changes at West High, South High, Mayberry Middle, and Robinson Middle Schools.
In November 2013, the Board approved a contract with Palmer-Hamilton for $250,000 to provide design services and cafeteria solutions for several schools. Four schools have since been elected to implement solutions.
Money for the projects will come from the Food Services Fund, which cannot be used for salaries and other general fund needs.
Other schools are still under consideration for improvements.
