WICHITA, Kan.-- Wichita drivers can expect to continue seeing road work along the major arterial roads this year.
"We have a lot of projects going even in the winter," said Tom Hein, public affairs manager for the Kansas Department of Transportation.
In West Wichita, the interchange for 13th Street and I-235 is on schedule to be completed by November 2014. The two-year project began in December 2012 and is halfway completed. Speed limits continue to be reduced near the project area.
The bidding process for the Kellogg and I-235 project is expected to begin in September 2015.
In East Wichita, construction for the Kansas Turnpike Authority and East Kellogg interchange project is expected to begin in March 2014. Buildings are being demolished near Kellogg and Webb Road in preparation for the road construction. The bidding process for the project will begin this week.
"It just takes a lot of years to get it all built but we should see some construction start soon on frontage roads and then you'll see traffic go to that. Then, at the very end, the freeway gets built," said Hein of East Kellogg construction.
