BEL AIRE, Kan. — A Wichita police captain is set to become the new chief in Bel Aire.
On Thursday, Bel Aire city leaders announced that Darrell Atteberry has accepted the position of police chief.
Captain Atteberry has been with the Wichita Police Department for 33 years, and is currently the bureau commander of Patrol West. He and his family have lived in Bel Aire since 1986.
Atteberry will replace former Chief John Daily, who resigned last December due to medical problems. He will begin his new duties on May 27.
