WICHITA, Kan. -- Two men were arrested in west Wichita after allegedly breaking into several cars early Thursday morning.

Around 3:40 a.m. Thursday, a resident of the 300 block of South Firefly heard a noise outside, then looked out and saw someone breaking into their car. The resident called 911 about the break-in, and said there was also an unknown red car nearby.

This neighborhood is u-shaped, and has only two exits to a main street. Officers in the area came into the neighborhood from both entrances looking for a red car matching the description.

They found the car and made contact with two men inside. Officers then found evidence in the car linking the men to 17 different vehicle break-ins.

Police say the men had been breaking windows to get into the vehicles.

The 18-year-old and 21-year-old men were arrested. Most of the stolen property has been returned to owners.
