Wichita holiday traffic enforcement program begins Monday

WICHITA, Kan. -- The Wichita Police Department is participating in a special traffic enforcement program that targets impaired drivers during the Thanksgiving holiday week.

Officers will conduct special saturation patrols beginning Monday Nov. 25 through Sunday Dec. 1 that with a focus on identifying and arresting impaired drivers and improperly restrained occupants.

This is a special grant program sponsored by the Kansas Department of Transportation. The grant provides funding for departments across the state to assign officers to come in on overtime for the purpose of addressing traffic concerns. Next week's effort is the first of three such programs to be conducted under this grant.

The other two programs will be announced prior to their implementation and will focus on restraint violations as well as impaired driving.
