The owner of a Wichita tobacco store, or head shop, is facing multiple charges of distributing synthetic marijuana.
The U.S. Attorney's Office today announced that 55-year-old Brett Welch of Hutchinson was indicted on 13 counts of distributing a synthetic version of marijuana, a controlled substance. He was also charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm after a felony conviction.
Welch is the owner of Mystic Planet, located at 2610 S. Seneca. The indictment alleges that he sold synthetic marijuana to undercover buyers on various dates from April to August of this year.
If convicted, Welch faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison and a fine up to $1 million on each drug count. He also faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on the other counts.
