WICHITA, Kan. -- WSU Athletics is attempting to prevent misuse of designated disability parking areas on basketball game days.
Before men's basketball games, Wichita State reserves an extra 70 parking spaces for accessible parking that aren't normally marked, in addition to the 22 marked stalls.
"We have had some misuse issues that have prevented those who have a real need from parking as close to Charles Koch Arena as they can," Director of Athletics Eric Sexton said.
Now, patrons will be asked to present their state-issued accessible parking card and a photo I.D. to park.
"The Kansas Department of Revenue dictates that when requested, a driver must show a state-issued card and a photo I.D. with both a placard or a disabled plate to park in those designated areas. We are requesting our patrons' understanding and cooperation in an effort to curtail misuse," Sexton said.
The new requirements begin before Saturday night's game against Oral Roberts. Lot attendants will be on hand checking placards, plates and I.D.s as vehicles enter the lots.
