A child is recovering after being burned with boiling water in a case Wichita Police are calling abuse.

It happened on Saturday at a home in an undisclosed part of southwest Wichita.

Police say a five-year-old girl got in trouble for bringing food into the living room. As punishment, police say a relative who was watching her poured boiling water on portions of her body.

Later in the day, her father came to pick her up. He soon after noticed injuries and took her to a hospital where she was treated for second-degree burns to her back, face and arms.

The Exploited and Missing Child Unit is investigating, but so far no arrests have been made.
