Police have identified the man who was killed in a crash over the weekend in southeast Wichita.
The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. Sunday on Pawnee between Oliver and Woodlawn.
Witnesses driving westbound on Pawnee told police a 4-door Honda passed them at a high rate of speed, and lost control on the curve near Cessna. Officers say the car soon after crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the turnpike bridge supports, ejecting the driver. He was taken to a local hospital in extremely critical condition and later died.
He's been identified as 23-year-old Tan Tran of Wichita. Police say excessive speed and alcohol played a role in the crash.
This is the 22nd traffic fatality of the year so far in Wichita. There were 14 by the same time last year.
