UPDATE: Thursday, September 19, 2013
Police in Omaha, Nebraska have arrested a Wichita man for the murder of a former Wichitan.
On Tuesday, a teenager found the body of her mother inside an Omaha apartment. Omaha Police ruled the death a homicide and soon after arrested 32-year-old Robert Grant of Wichita. He was booked for Criminal Homicide and Use of a Weapon During the Commission of a Felony.
Neighbors say McKee's throat had been cut. They also reported often hearing a man and woman arguing inside the apartment.
Police identified the victim as 43-year-old Trudy McKee, who recently moved to Omaha from Wichita.
Last year, Wichita police officers responded to a report that Grant had threatened McKee with a kitchen knife, and punched her daughter in the face at an east Wichita apartment. A judge granted two Protection from Abuse Orders, one for McKee and the other for her daughter, but the case was later dismissed.
Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett could not release specifics on the dismissal, but issued the following statement:
"The Office of the District Attorney, 18th Judicial District, wishes to express our condolences to the family of Ms. McKee. The Sedgwick County prosecution against Mr. Grant ended in a dismissal after a review of the evidence and following extensive input from Ms. McKee. We cannot comment further out of respect for integrity of the pending investigation and prosecution in Omaha."
Formal charges have not yet been filed, but KAKE News will continue to track developments in this case. Check back for updates.
