WICHITA, Kan The long-rumored plans for a Costco in east Wichita gained steam this week as the project showed up on a national bidding platform.
According to the McGraw-Hill Construction Dodge BidPRO report, the bid date for construction of both a Costco retail store and gas station is Aug. 19.
Both projects are in the sub-bidding phase.
The retail store is valued at $6 million, while the gas station project is listed at $749,999.
Costco has said it does not comment on new locations until ground has been broken on new projects.
But the clues continue to add up to the retail chain preparing to build at the northeast corner of Kellogg and Webb Road.
People we talked to are excited about this possible store.
Ashley Dunham said she would definitely shop there and is happy Wichita could get another shopping option. "Everytime we hear about Wichita getting more of those (kinds of stores) it's kind of exciting. Feels like we are not just the after thought of Kansas City."
In addition to the bid report, the city of Wichita’s planning commission will consider Costco’s plat at its meeting on Thursday. That consideration appears on the commission’s meeting agenda.
