WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita City Council got a tour this morning of the new airport terminal, which will open next year.
It has been about 18 months since ground was broken for the new terminal. At that time, there was no talk about renaming the airport to Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport.
A statement from the city indicates the new terminal still is on schedule to open in the spring of 2015, when the name change will become final.
KAKE cameras were last inside the project in September 2013. The work on more than 300 yards of skylights was well along. But the baggage claim area was developing slowly, because federal security rules have to be met.
One recent sign of progress is that the city is entertaining offers for food and beverage stands at the terminal. Our media partner the Wichita Business Journal reports the deadline for those bids is April 25.
