Cade Hall tells us he was playing on the computer in the living room Thursday night, while his parents were in the kitchen. He was sitting on the couch just a few feet from the unlocked front door.

“I saw this guy, he poked his head in the door, he had his shirt over his head. My mom's purse was right by me and he just came in and snatched it. I grabbed it with my hands it ripped and then he got off. After he ran out the door I yelled, 'Mom your purse just got stolen,'” Cade Hall told us.

Cade says he waited on the front porch while his parents chased after the robber. Actually Cade's mom tells us it wasn't until later when Cade was telling the police his story, that she first heard her 8-year-old son fought back.

“He's pretty protective and he knew that was mommy's purse and nobody elses,” Nikki Hall told us.

Even though she's proud of her son, she says she hopes if he ever finds himself in a similar situation he might act a little less brave.

“Very scared, very scared. We had a big talk about how next time we let the bad guy take the purse and we'll get a new one,” Nikki Hall said.

An 8-year-old south Wichita boy was home on the computer when a stranger walked in the house and stole his mother's purse.

The boy's father, Willie Hall, says he and his wife were in the back of the house when it happened. Hall says the man walked into their unlocked home in the 1500 block of South Kansas Street Thursday night and grabbed Mrs. Hall's purse.

That's when Hall says his son Cade reached out and the two played a tug-of-war over the purse. Cade yelled for his parents who then ran after the suspect.

Willie Hall chased the man on foot over Harry street. That's when Hall said the man ran onto Interstate 135 and was hit by a car. He was still holding Mrs. Hall's wallet when he was hit.

The 50-year-old suspect is in the hospital after he was hit by a car on Interstate 135 .

Emergency crews were called to I-135, just south of Harry Street about 10:30 p.m. after reports that a pedestrian had been hit by a car in the southbound lanes of the Interstate. The man was apparently trying to cross the highway from west to east when he was hit by a car driven by a 29-year-old woman.

Police said an 8-year-old boy was watching television in his home when the suspect entered and grabbed a purse belonging to the boy's mother. The boy yelled for his parents and the suspect ran out of the house.

Investigators said the boy's father chased the suspect for several blocks.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said Ezekiel Rhoten, Jr. was taken to Wesley Medical Center in serious condition. He's being treated for a broken leg, broken ribs and a collapsed lung.

Kansas Department of Corrections records show Rhoten was paroled in December, 2010 after serving time for aggravated burglary.
