Wichita, Kan. -- Westar Energy is warning customers about impostors claiming to work for the company.

The company says they have received several calls from customers reporting that individuals were claiming to need access to customers' homes to work or check equipment. Westar says rarely do employees or contractors need access to a home for maintenance.

The company says all Westar employees carry company identification and will show it when asked. Employees will also wear company clothing and drive vehicles with the Westar logo.

Westar says anyone who receives a visit from someone claiming to be a an employee and wanting access to their home should contact 911. Customers should ask for their identification and if they are unsure, contact the Customer Relations Center at 800-383-1183 to verify they have sent someone to their address.
