WELLINGTON, Kan. -- A Wellington man was sentenced Thursday to nearly 19 years in prison after pleading no contest to second-degree murder.
A Sumner County judge sentenced Spencer Weikal, 25, to 227 months in prison in the death of 2-year-old Larrissa Foster. Weikal pleaded no contest in November to charges of second-degree murder, child abuse and child endangerment.
Authorities said the girl suffered severe head injuries at a Wellington home. The child's mother took her to a nearby hospital and was later transferred to Wichita for treatment where she later died.
