Wellington firefighters and police are looking for the person or people responsible for intentionally setting three fires this week.
Firefighters were called to the 1200 block of South A Street in South Wellington on Wednesday, around 12:20 a.m. While on the way to the report of a shed on fire, firefighters were alerted that four large hay bales were also on fire.
Around 5:15 a.m., firefighters were called out to the same area to the report a vacant house on fire. When they arrived, they found flames shooting through the roof of the house.
Investigators have since determined that the three fires were arson.
"Arson fires in Wellington are infrequent. When we have three in one night, it concerns you," said Wellington Fire Chief Tim Hay. "We do think that they are all connected to one individual or individuals so we don't think we have three different fires that we have to investigate."
Hay said he is concerned that the arsonist may strike again since there are several houses that are not occupied.
"Just be on the lookout. Make sure your out buildings are secure, your house is secure, your cars are secure, and there are no items left out, like abandoned furniture or trash, that's an opportunity for them," said Hay.
If you have any information about these fires, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
