WICHITA, Kan. — A child remains in critical condition following a scooter crash in north Wichita on Monday.

The accident happened around 12:30 p.m. Monday in the 1000 block of North Waco.

According to Wichita Police, a 4-year-old girl was riding on her 30-year-old father's lap as he was driving the scooter. As the scooter was northbound on Waco, officers say a pickup truck turned in front of them.

The child suffered serious injuries and was rushed to an area hospital. She remains in critical condition. Police say she was wearing a helmet.

Her father is also hospitalized, and now listed in good condition. The 44-year-old driver of the truck was not hurt.

Police say with warmer weather, drivers need to be more aware of those on motorcycles, scooters and bicycles as well as pedestrians.
