Lisa Rossbacher is looking for an added bonus if she named the next Wichita State University president.
“I have family connections in the area,” she said.
The third finalist told reporters Wednesday her husband was born in El Dorado, and that his sister and family still live in the area.
Rossbacher has served as president at Southern Polytechnic State University in Georgia since 1998. She received her Ph.D. in Geological and Geophysical Sciences from Princeton University.
Besides a family connection, Rossbacher said she was drawn to Wichita State because of the university’s strong engineering and fine arts backgrounds. She said she looks forward to building a relationship between WSU and the community.
“The intersection where the needs of the business community are, and the interests and academic expertise of the faculty and the students here at Wichita State can come together to really make the whole region stronger,” Rossbacher said.
Rossbacher is one of five candidates hoping to replace president Donald Beggs, who is retiring in May. The Kansas Board of Regents hopes to name a new replacement by the start of the summer session.
