Wichita police officers will be hitting the streets Monday in an effort to promote reading.
WPD is partnering with Watermark Books and Cafe for world book night. The campaign aims to give away a half-million free, specially printed books across America.
Local authorities will distribute 2,000 books to people who otherwise might not have access to them. Officers have selected the people who will receive the books through their work in the community.
Dep. Chief Terri Moses said partnerships are a key part of successful communities.
"This project is an opportunity for officers to meet with citizens and provide them with a small luxury, a book that they might otherwise not be able to enjoy," Moses said.
Book titles include current titles as well as many other classics.
