WICHITA, Kan. (WBJ) — The Saint Luke’s Health System in Kansas City announced Tuesday it will open a kidney transplant facility in Wichita, filling a void left by the closing of the Via Christi kidney transplant program.
A release from Saint Luke’s says the system will open with eight employees in an office at 1035 N. Emporia.
Via Christi suspended its program in 2012 to investigate a series of patient deaths.
The investigation did not indicate any commonalities between the cases, but Via Christi leaders decided in May not to reopen the kidney transplant program.
The new program will be called The Saint Luke’s Kidney Transplant Satellite Clinic-Wichita. The eight Wichita employees have previous kidney transplant experience and, Saint Luke’s says, will be led by an abdominal transplant administrator.
