WICHITA, Kan.-- Local veterinarians say it is safe for dogs to drink ice water.
An online article written in 2010 has gone viral again. It is urging people not to give their dogs ice water.
"There's no truth in that," said Dr. Gerri Fraizer of Caring Hearts Veterinary Clinic. "We recommend ice cubes when we're trying to help with vomiting dogs a lot. There's just no worry."
Fraizer said her colleagues agree.
"I've talked to a few other colleagues about it, since we started getting the calls. I didn't even know how it got started. They had been fielding a few calls as well," said Fraizer.
Veterinarians also recommend keeping pets cool during the summer months by keeping them in shaded areas, changing their water often, and taking them outside in the early morning or late evening.
