Vandals Cause Over $1 Million In Damage To New Derby Walmart

Derby Police are investigating after vandals cause major damage to a new Walmart Marketplace store under construction.

Sometime between 6:30 p.m. on Friday and 7 a.m. Saturday, an unknown number of people entered the new building through a plywood door. the vandals used scissor-lift units to ram the freezer cases in the center of the store.

The damage was so extensive that none of the units can be repaired and will have to be replaced. Damage to the building is estimated at $1,000,000.

"We rely on the public to provide us with the information on crimes like this, whether it is somebody talking about it or bragging about it," said Derby Police Deputy Chief Dan Hammon. "Somebody will hear something and we ask them to report it to us, where we can get this crime solved."
