Police say would-be copper thieves caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage to a north Wichita business. The damage was reported around 4 p.m. Friday at the Kamen industrial park in the 800 block of East 21st Street.
About 2,000 feet of copper wiring was found on the ground near the business. Investigators say it appears someone ripped the copper from electrical systems on the building's roof. Damage is estimated at $750,000.
Police say they have identified a person of interest in the case. That person is still at large.
