HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Investigators now say fires that burned a vacant house and mobile home overnight in Hutchinson cases of arson.
Just after 3 a.m. Thursday, Hutchinson firefighters responded to the area of K-61 and Lorraine and found a two-story house on fire. About an eighth of a mile to the east, they discovered a mobile home was also burning.
Firefighters were able to get the house fire under control in about 30 minutes, but the mobile home was allowed to burn. Deputy Fire Chief Doug Hanen said access to the mobile home was difficult, as it was surrounded by a plowed field and set back off the road. Because of it's location, the fire was unable to spread to anything else.
No one was hurt. The fire department reports both homes have been vacant for some time.
The fires are under investigation with the assistance of the Reno County Sheriff's Office. Investigators are following up with interviews, but no arrests have been made.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Hutchinson Fire Department at 620-694-2871 or Reno County Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
