An elderly Wichita woman lost hundreds of dollars to men posing as utility workers, police said today.

An 85-year-old woman in West Wichita told officers two men wearing KG&E shirts and jackets came to her door, saying they needed to fix wiring upstairs. The men went into the woman's attic and came back with a burned piece of wire. The men told the homeowner the repair would cost thousands of dollars. She paid the men by check. Police said the men cashed the check immediately.

Westar Energy sent out an alert Tuesday, after receiving a report of a man posing as one of their workers in the Derby area. Westar said its workers always carry credentials and often wear clothing with the utility company's logo.
