You may soon find yourself spending less time waiting on trains in Wichita.
Union Pacific Railroad announced today it will gradually increase the speed of its trains on nearly four miles of rail line in Wichita. The line runs between 63rd South and just north of the Arkansas River.
UP will increase train speeds from 30 to 35 miles per hour on December 1st;
To 40 mph on December 8th;
To 45 mph on December 15th;
And to 49 mph on December 22nd.
Recent track upgrades will allow the trains to move faster. Union Pacific said it invested nearly $10 million in track improvements to its line between Wichita and Medford, OK.
