WICHITA, Kan. -- The Sheriff’s Office is again warning the public of a scam involving jury duty.
Several people have received phone calls from someone identifying them self as a Sheriff’s Deputy, demanding payment of fines for failing to show up for jury duty.
Anyone receiving such a phone call should not give out any information or make any payment. Instead, hang up and call Sheriff Investigations at 316-660-5300.
A new scam is going around and it involves jury duty.
Someone is calling people in Sedgwick County and telling them they missed jury duty and the owe a fine. In one case a 46-year-old man was told to purchase a green dot money card. The man then gave the caller the numbers off the back of the card.
Wichita Police received two calls yesterday, while Sedgwick County deputies received three calls.
If you miss jury duty you can expect a letter from a judge, not a telephone call.
