The child pulled a pond in a southeast Wichita backyard earlier this week has died.

Early Monday morning, 17-month-old Ethan Joshua Kimmi climbed out of his grandparents' house through a dog door in the 5100 block of South Madison. He was soon found in a koi pond in the backyard.

Rescue crews were able to resuscitate him and took him to an area hospital, but he has since died.

His family issued this statement:

“It is with great sadness that our beloved Ethan Joshua Kimmi has gone to heaven. In his short life he touched so many people. He never met a single stranger. He is in heaven giving high five’s to everyone. Our family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support. This is a very tough time in our lives. He will be greatly missed. Anyone willing to help with expenses can go to any Credit Union of America under Ethan Kimmi Memorial Fund. Thanks again for everyone’s support – Mitchell Kimmi Family.”
