UPDATE: Monday, May 28, 2012

Two people have been taken to local hospitals after a serious accident just outside of Wichita.

It happened near 135th W. and MacArthur Rd. just before 9 a.m. Monday.

Sgt. Terry Litton, Sedgwick County, said one car was driving south on 135th St., when it collided with a westbound vehicle. Litton said it appeared the southbound driver may have failed to stop at a stop sign, or didn't see the oncoming car.

A 22-year-old man was flown to a Wichita hospital with critical injuries. A 81-year-old man was also transported with potentially serious injuries.

Authorities closed the intersection for several hours as investigators reconstructed the accident.
