HAYSVILLE, Kan. -- A car heading the wrong way on the Kansas Turnpike collided with a semi truck before dawn Wednesday, injuring two people.
State troopers say the semi driver was heading south near the Haysville/Derby exit around 3:20 a.m., when he saw a car traveling toward him.
"The car was in my lane, coming the wrong way at me," the semi driver told KAKE News. "I jerked to the right real fast to avoid a head-on collision."
The car wound up in a ditch, about 1,000 feet from the truck. Two people in the car were taken to a Wichita hospital with serious injuries. The truck driver was not injured.
Crews are still investigating the accident, looking into why the vehicle was travelling the wrong direction.
