PARTRIDGE, Kan. — The Kansas Highway Patrol blames a trash truck drive for a five-vehicle crash that injured four people Tuesday.

It happened just before 6 p.m. on K-61 at Red Rock Rd., just southwest of Partridge. Troopers say the trash truck driver came upon cars stopped for construction work. The driver rear-ended one car, sideswiped two others, then struck a construction worker removing items from the road.

A Reno County 911 dispatcher tells KAKE News one person was seriously injured and transported by medical helicopter to Via Christi - St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. Several others were taken to Hutchinson for treatment.

K-61 was closed for more than five hours, while troopers investigated what happened.
