AUGUSTA, Kan. -- Two people are dead in an apparent murder-suicide in Augusta.
It happened last night at a home in the 1200 block of Helen in Augusta.
A 12-year-old boy called 911 around 9:40 p.m. Thursday saying he heard his mom scream followed by gunshots. He had locked himself in his bedroom.
As officers were en route, the dispatcher was able to talk the boy into leaving the house through his window. When police arrived, they set up a perimeter and got the boy to safety.
Minutes later, officers entered the home and found a man and woman dead from gunshot wounds. They have since been identified as 45-year-old Gary Weaver and 31-year-old Erin Weaver.
Tyler Brewer, director of public safety for Augusta, says the couple had no previous history of domestic violence.
The boy was not hurt and is now with his biological father, who does not live in Butler County.
