Two people arrested in connection to an 8-year-old girl's shooting death have been charged in the case.
Kimbra Moore died from a gun shot wound to the head Tuesday. Police said a stray bullet hit the young girl as she slept inside her south Wichita home. Her death wasn't reported until about 30 minutes later, when police were first called to the report of gunshots in the area.
A bullet also grazed Kimberly McDonough's head. She is expected to recover from her injuries.
In Sedgwick County District Court Thursday, prosecutors charged Zachary Gaston, 24, with first-degree murder in Moore's death. He also faces charges of aggravated battery, criminal discharge of a firearm, and criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
He remains jailed on $500,000 bond.
Prosecutors also charged Jessica Padilla, 28, with interference with a law enforcement officer in connection to the case. Her bond was set at $100,000.
Police continue to search for a third person of interest in the shooting, the driver of a stolen black 2011 Ford Focus.
