An early morning accident in northwest Wichita has left two young men dead. The accident happened just after 2:30 A.M. near 13th Street and 135th Street West.
According to police and witnesses, a car traveling westbound on 13th struck a culvert beside the road, went airborne and hit a utility pole after it was seen speeding past at least one driver.
The driver, 21-year-old Marcus W. McClellan, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, 22-year-old Devan M. Krausch, was ejected during the crash. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died.
At one point, about 500 Westar customers in that area lost electricity when the pole was struck. Power was restored to all affected customers shortly after 9 a.m. Thursday.
Police believe both speed and alcohol contributed to the crash.
