Wichita, Kan. -- Changes are in the works for Twin Lakes Shopping Center which used to be one of the busiest malls in Wichita.
Demolition crews are removing the last of the old Twin Lakes movie theatre and where a supper club was once located.
Republic Financial Corporation located in greater Denver took ownership in a foreclosure about two and a half years ago.
Chuck Singleton, President of Republic's special assets division says, "We have plans to completely demolish about 25% of the existing square footage. It'll open it up where the old Twin Lakes Theatre and Aaron's site were located there will be a pad site that should accommodate a national restaurant chain that will have very good views of the lake."
Singleton, who grew up in Wichita says, "We believe the lake there turns out a lot of people to watch the bald eagles during the year is a great amenity and will enhance the experience of the shopping center now that it's more exposed."
He says the east section of Twin Lakes where Sears used to be will also be removed.
Singleton says local broker Troy Farha of NAI Martens is in talks with national restaurant chains which might locate at Twin Lakes.
He says, "With the reconfiguration of the center it will bring new life back to it. The layout will change entirely."
