Highway Patrol troopers worked a deadly Labor Day holiday, as
four people died on Kansas roads.
The agency said four people died in traffic accidents this year, compared to just one in 2011. One of the fatal crashes was alcohol related. Officers also worked four drunk driving related accidents, double the same number at this time last year.
KHP troopers issued 114 fewer speeding tickets in 2012, as well as fewer seat belt citations. However, officials issued six more child restraint citations.
The patrol participated in the “You drink, you drive, you lose” drunk driving campaign. During the two-week campaign, troopers arrested 39 people for driving under the influence.
