Train spills 3,000 gallons of diesel

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. - Police say a freight train leaked 3,000 gallons of diesel fuel late Sunday night.

A KAKE viewer alerted us to the problem near Jackson and South Summit in Arkansas City, reporting a hazmat unit was called. A police lieutenant reported the leak came from the locomotive engine around 11:20 p.m., with no tanker cars rupturing.

Several streets were closed as a precaution, but they were reopened by 1:00 a.m. No one was hurt, and no evacuations were needed.
