ELLINWOOD, Kan Three or four grain rail cars derailed in Barton County early this morning. The scene is at the intersection of east Barton County Road and SE 90th Avenue, one mile east of Ellinwood.
The Barton County Sheriff's department said the grain hoppers fell off the tracks and spilled their loads of grain.
The derailed cars came to rest off the roadway, but the remaining cars are blocking the intersection. The road is expected to reopen this evening after the cars are moved.
K&O Railroad is investigating what caused the derailment. Sheriff's investigations believe it may have been caused by snowpack at the intersection.
