WICHITA, Kan. -- Wichita police have identified the woman who was killed after being hit by a train in southeast Wichita early Tuesday.
The woman was struck by the train near Southeast Boulevard and Harry around 3:20 a.m. Tuesday. The engineer told police that he blew his whistle several times and slowed the train, but the woman made no attempt to get off the tracks.
The train blocked East Harry for about three hours after the crash, while police investigated what happened.
On Wednesday, police identified the woman as 53-year-old Vikki Battle of Wichita. Police say she suffered from early stages of Alzheimer's, and believe this was an accident, not a suicide.
