WICHITA, Kan. -- A trailer full of theater sets and costumes stolen from the Wichita Children's Theater and Dance Center. The stolen items were going to be used in the touring production of "The Ugly Duckling" starting in September.
Monica Flynn, Executive Director WCTDC said, "when we arrived at the office yesterday morning we realized that the trailer was gone."
They told KAKE News the trailer was grey in color and parked in the back of the building. Flynn said they've always parked the trailer out in the back. Inside the trailer costumes, sets and props for their upcoming tour of "The Ugly Duckling." Flynn said, "no the major costumes were not in there but the costume pieces from that show are also in the trailer."
The non-profit organization says they've lost about $12,000. Flynn said, "it's devastating, you feel so violated. Of course, you're hearing that there's robberies and stealing all over the city."
They say the thieves were probably shocked to open up a trailer full of theater props. She said, "the set was of no value to anyone but us and so there's a little bit of satisfaction in that I don't believe these thieves will be putting on a production of the Ugly Duckling."
