TOPEKA, Kan The Topeka school district announced today graduating students will be given additional tickets to commencement exercises featuring First Lady Michelle Obama.

Topeka was selected as one of only two public districts where the First Lady would serve as commencement speaker. Some parents were upset because students were initially told they'd be limited to four tickets per person. A USD 501 spokesperson said today students will receive six tickets, and they hope to make additional tickets available to families who need them.

The commencement will take place May 17th at 1:00 p.m. at Topeka's Expocenter. The event will be a combined ceremony for students from Topeka High, Topeka West and Highland Park High Schools.

Each high school is planning a senior recognition event that will include the school specific traditions associated with graduation. Information about these events will be released soon by each high school.
