Topeka Police Searching For Suspect In Fatal Shooting

Topeka Police say one of two people shot Wednesday afternoon has died.

A 35 year-old man and 28 year-old woman were shot inside of an apartment complex near the state capitol. They were both transported to the hospital where the man later died.

Our sister station WIBW reports that authorities are searching for Michael Dean Engstrom,33, who is considered armed and dangerous. He is a white male around 6'5, weighing 250 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark jacket and blue jeans.

Engstrom is from the Gardner-area in Johnson County. He was last seen driving a white 2009 Ford Focus with a temporary tag. He was last seen with a 34 year-old female who is 5'4, 350 lbs. The second was a 14 year-old female.

Authorities tell WIBW that the victims were targeted and it was not a random attack.

Topeka Police are investigating a double shooting that left at least one person with potentially critical injuries.

Our sister station WIBW reports that it happened around 2:30 Wednesday afternoon at an apartment, located 1255 SW Topeka Blvd, just south of the state capitol.

911 dispatchers tell WIBW a man and woman were shot and at least one of them was seriously injured. Authorities are searching for a white male in his 30's who was seen leaving the area with two women.

A motive for the shooting is unknown at this hour. Police are searching the area with help from a helicopter from the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Police say the victims were targeted and the shooting was not a random attack.
