A Hutchinson jeweler says a trio of thieves didn't just break into his store, they crashed in. It happened just after two Saturday morning and the store's security cameras caught the whole smash and grab on camera.

From the second the car crashes through the front of R. Westphal jewelers, it only takes 41 seconds for three thieves to make their way through the store. They can be seen smashing cases and grabbing jewelry as they go.

"It makes me sick, it makes me sick to my stomach, this is my hard work, this is 37 years of work,” owner Richard Westphal said.

Richard Westphal says when he got to the store Saturday morning, the thieves were gone. The car, which was reported stolen out of Wichita, was still sitting in the middle of his store.

"You know I was shocked, I was stunned. It was almost like this is a nightmare,” Westphal said.

He's still taking inventory to see what all the thieves got away with but he says the damage to the store is going to cost more than the jewelry he lost.

"All the diamonds and gold, all the valuable things we lock up we don't leave anything very valuable out,” Westphal said.

in his 37 years, Westphal says he's been hit by thieves before. Although none of those break-ins compare to this.

"By far this is the most devastating and the most serious because of the destruction,” Westphal said.

If you have any information that could help police find the people that broke into Westphal Jewelers you're asked to call Crime Stoppers of Reno County at 620-694-2666.
