WICHITA, Kan.-- A thief took the only bicycle that belonged to a Special Olympics cyclist early this week.

"We were going to get it serviced, get it ready for the Special Olympics," said Joe Weniger.

On Monday around 1 p.m., Weniger left his bike in his mother's truck. He went inside the Second Blessing Thrift Store, near Central and Grove, to ask about volunteering opportunities. Within 20 minutes, someone took his green Mongoose bicycle.

"Joe uses his bike for everything," said Gloria Allsman, thrift store supervisor. "He was like on the verge of tears. It just made me want to cry for him."

The avid cyclist is pleading for the return of his bicycle.

"I need the bike back so I can participate in the Special Olympics. Please, please bring it back, as soon as you can," said Weniger.
