Families are set to gather around the dinner table and enjoy their Thanksgiving traditions.

Of course, those traditions require plenty of preparation, planning and shopping. That kept Kansas grocery stores busy Wednesday.

Myrna Heath was at the Dillons Marketplace store at 21st and Maize Road in Wichita Wednesday afternoon, getting ready for her family gathering.

"We have 15 all together," she said.

That feast for 15 gives Heath plenty of cooking and shopping to do the day before Thanksgiving. She leaves all of her Thanksgiving grocery shopping until the day before, but she isn't worried about leaving anything out.

"Well, I'm after a ham and I'm after some green beans and French fried onions for a casserole," Heath said. "I'm after cream cheese and sour cream for a salad; chips for sandwiches later."

She said she doesn't mind making sure everybody's favorites are on the table.

"They come to town so I fix it all, but I have help," she said.

Turkey and other Thanksgiving Day staples were not the only items flying off the shelves, said Dillons spokeswoman Sheila Lowrie.

"A lot of customers are baking this holiday season, so we have a lot of customers who are interested in getting some pie filling, chocolate chips; all of those great things to make some baked goodies as well," she said.

Baking is Brian Le's mission for his family's gathering this year. He was at the store to pick up some brownie mix and graham crackers for a new dessert he hopes will become a hit.

"I'll do a layer of brownie mix, put another layer of graham crackers; more brownie mix over that," he said. "Bake it, bite into the brownie, get a nice little crunch with the graham cracker in it."

Le said everybody in his family brings a little something to the table, so he knows he can count on his favorites to show up.

"Definitely the turkey and a big mashed potato guy, too," Le said. "Love mashed potatoes."
