Texting Blamed For Butler County Crash

A driver sending a text message caused a two-vehicle accident in Butler County, the Kansas Highway Patrol said today. The accident happened after 7:30 a.m. on US-54 at Flint Hills Road, 23 miles east of El Dorado.

Troopers said Lauren Bowen, 16, of El Dorado, was texting and made a left turn in front of another car. Bowen and two people in her car, Kody Melugin, 13, and Kolton Melugin, 11, were taken to Susan B. Allen Hospital for possible injuries.

Two Eureka teenagers were in the other car. Leanne Krohnfeldt and Joshua Pankow, both 18, were also taken to Susan B. Allen Hospital for treatment.
