ANDOVER, Kan. -- A Douglass teenager has been arrested for a fire at an Andover Dollar General store.
The fire was reported Thursday at the store located at 724 N. Andover Road. Firefighters reported smoke billowing out of the doors.
It took about two hours to get the fire under control.
A 16-year-old girl from Augusta and a 16-year-old boy from Douglass were arrested a short time after the fire. The girl was released to her parents. The boy was transferred to a juvenile facility in Hutchinson where he's being held on eight counts of aggravated arson.
"Based off of interviews and the accounts of other people that were in the store, we're putting them about 10-15 minutes (in the store)," said Andover Police Detective Daimon Cundiff.
The fire caused at least a half a million dollars damage, including $360,000 loss of merchandise.
The teen is expected to make a first court appearance in a Butler County courtroom on Monday.
